Bengal rode on a century by Ambar Roy to beat Orissa by an innings and 111 runs on the last day of their three-day Ranji Trophy East Zone match at the Eden Gardens in Calcutta today. This was Bengal’s the 15th overall win and 12th by an innings in 16 Ranji Trophy matches against Orissa.
For Orissa, the most memorable aspect of the match was an unbeaten half-century in the first innings by Ashokananda Jena. As many as six Orissa players made first-class debut in this match. Among them, Aditya P Mohanty put up good performance, scoring 22 runs as last batsman in the first innings, eight in the second and became the most successful bowler with three wickets for 67 runs in the only innings of Bengal.
Other five debutants for Orissa were: Mukul Roy Chowdhury, P Bose, S Raghuram, Supti K Ghosh and wicket-keeper A K Channa. B Sridhar Alva led Orissa for the first time in Ranji Trophy.
